Steno speed building is not about moving your hands faster; it is about writing shorter outlines. By utilizing advanced phraseography, you can capture multiple words in a single stroke combination.
1. Use Grammalogue Blends
Instead of lifting your pen between words, join common combinations. For example, the phrase 'thank you for' or 'I have been' can be written as single continuous motions.
2. Apply the Halving Principle
By halving a standard stroke's length, you automatically add a 'T' or 'D' sound. Mastery of this halving rule cuts your outline writing time by nearly 30%.
3. Eliminate Vowel Marks Gradually
Beginners tend to put vowels on every word. As you progress past 60 WPM, you must drop vowel marks. Position writing (above, on, or through the line) is enough to distinguish word outlines.
For instance, placing the outline for 'P-T' through the line indicates 'put', while on the line indicates 'pet' or 'pity'. Trust your position writing!
